THE PLAN

Follow our “A.D.D.” plan for implementing critical change in your parent and school community.

  • Collective action is essential.

  • Parents should work together, alongside their schools’ administrators, to delay their children's access to smartphones and social media.

  • Signing a phone pledge means committing to a group agreement to not give kids smartphones until a certain age.

  • Kids won’t feel left out if most of their peers don't have phones yet.

  • Delaying giving children smartphones can help protect their mental health.

  • Constant notifications and updates cause anxiety and stress, and excessive use can interfere with sleep.

  • Children's brains aren't fully developed and may not have the self-control to regulate their behavior on smartphones.

  • A "dumbphone" or “featureless phone” can be offered as an alternative because they only allow basic functions like calling and texting.

  • They limit access to the internet, social media, and other potentially distracting apps.

  • By not having access to apps and the internet, kids are less likely to be distracted by social media or endless scrolling while at school or out with friends.
